Meli & Jason Discuss ZIPPERED FLESH

Meli Hooker and Jason Darrick of Dreadful Tales discuss the Zippered Flesh anthology, story by story! A great review, and if you haven't read the book yet, this describes every story without spilling the beans. Great Review for Zippered Flesh in Fangoria Magazine

Finally got the May issue of Fangoria and read the review of Zippered Flesh that folks had told me about. The reviewer, Christine Hadden, did a great job capturing the flavor of the anthology. She said "this compendium of depravity" has "something for everyone to be distrubed by," and that the stories "are hardcore studies of shocking monstrosities that will enthrall and entice even the most hardened horror fan." Doesn't get better than that!

An Interview With Charles Colyott

Charles Colyott, author of the story "Comfort" in the Zippered Flesh anthology, has been interviewed by Darcia Helle on her blog, "A Word Please." Check out the blog posting "Murder, Tai Chi, Acupuncture, and Llamas."

Michael Louis Calvillo Succumbs to Cancer

One of the best writers of modern horror fiction passed away today. Michael Louis Calvillo lost his long and valiant fight against cancer this morning, at the all-too-young age of 37.

I never met Michael, but I had the fortunate honor of working with him this past year on a story that he'd written for the Zippered Flesh anthology, "The Sad, Not-So-Sad Ballad of Goat-Head Jean, Ambivalent Devil Queen." I found him wholly professional and gracious concerning my editor
ial suggestions, and I sensed his humor and love of life, even in our brief correspondence. I looked forward to working with him again on future projects. I was greatly disheartened hearing the news of his death this morning.

My prayers and thoughts go out to his family and friends.

Farewell and rest in peace, my friend!

Welcome to the Smart Rhino Blog!

It took some time to get it here ... but here it is! The Smart Rhino Blog is finally up and operational!

We would like to use this area to make announcements, share thoughts, let you know how book projects are going, and to keep tabs on our authors and their work. Maybe a review will slip in on occasion, who knows? We're going to follow our whims ...

Our debut anthology, Zippered Flesh: Tales of Body Enhancements Gone Bad, has received great reviews on Amazon and elsewhere. (And, if you've read the book and enjoyed it, please please please go to Amazon and leave a spectacular review.) We still plan to do a sequel in early 2013.

The Uncommon Assassins anthology is coming along strong in the production phase. We still have a few slots open (and may even extend the count beyond 20 stories), but it is filling fast! The stories included so far are stellar--you folks who love suspense/thriller fiction are going to have a feast!

We also intend to continually grow the Smart Rhino web site. The Zippered Flesh author bios were just added, and we will post the bios of the Uncommon Assassins authors as soon as the book's line-up is complete. We will be updating the bios, announcing new books and events for our authors, in our ongoing efforts to make this site interesting and useful to our community.

So, come back often to see what's new. We may just surprise you!
